Dogs are welcome in the grounds and must stay on leads at all times. Pet dogs cannot enter the house. The team advises that Smallhythe Place is closed from November to March; check the National Trust’s opening calendar before travelling. Entry is free for National Trust members.

Planning a museum visit? Tenterden & District Museum has confirmed that assistance dogs are welcome, but pet dogs cannot enter. It is not a participating pet-friendly venue.
Local Walks Around Tenterden
A stretch of the legs can be part of a day in town. Explore Tenterden Recreation Ground, St Michaels Recreation Ground or Kiln Field Nature Reserve. The Town Council’s pages give local information for planning your visit. These are public outdoor places, rather than campaign businesses.
For a longer outing, Explore Tenterden’s walking routes include the 3.2 km Chennell Park walk and the 4.9 km Tenterden to St Michaels route, which the local tourism guide describes as dog-friendly.
Follow signs on site, keep dogs under close control, give wildlife and livestock plenty of space and pick up after your dog. Check the route and ground conditions before setting off; countryside paths can be muddy.
