At Heronden Vets, we’re pleased to offer dedicated cardiac screening and assessment to help support the heart health of your pet. Whether your pet requires routine breed-specific screening, has been found to have a heart murmur, or is showing signs of heart disease, our cardiology service provides detailed assessment and guidance to support their ongoing care.

Meet Our Consultant Cardiologist

Dr Jee Young Shin, our Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiology Certificate holder, joined the Heronden team in March 2025. Dr Young offers cardiology appointments at Heronden on Fridays, providing both routine cardiac screening and comprehensive assessments for patients requiring further investigation.

Our Cardiology Services

We offer a range of cardiac assessments tailored to your pet’s needs, including:

Breed-specific cardiac screening for conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and mitral valve disease.

Routine cardiac screening for patients with a heart murmur but no clinical signs of heart disease.

Full cardiac assessments for patients showing clinical signs or requiring further investigation.

Baseline cardiac measurements to help inform clinical decision-making and support ongoing care.

Depending on the assessment required, investigations may include a cardiac ultrasound scan (echocardiogram) and a full electrocardiogram (ECG).

Routine Cardiac Screening – £375

For patients with a heart murmur but no clinical signs of heart disease, we offer routine cardiac screening to help assess their heart health and establish baseline measurements. This can help guide clinical decisions and inform recommendations for ongoing monitoring or care.

Full Cardiac Assessment – £650

For patients showing clinical signs of heart disease or requiring more comprehensive investigation, we offer a full cardiac assessment for £650.

This includes:

• Cardiology consultation with Dr Young

• Cardiac ultrasound scan (echocardiogram)

• Full electrocardiogram (ECG)

• Follow-up results and a detailed report with findings and recommendations

The assessment and investigations are carried out during the appointment wherever possible.

A report will also be provided to your pet’s usual veterinary practice, ensuring that findings and recommendations are shared to support their ongoing care.

Collaborative Care and Referrals

We believe that working closely with your usual veterinary practice is essential to providing the most appropriate care for your pet. Our cardiology service supports referring vets by offering additional assessment, diagnostic information and recommendations for managing cardiac conditions.

If you’re concerned about your pet’s heart health, or your vet has detected a heart murmur, please speak to your usual veterinary practice first. They can discuss whether a referral to our cardiology service would be appropriate.

We welcome cardiac referrals from other veterinary practices for routine screening, heart murmurs and more complex cases involving suspected or confirmed heart disease.
